BOTANICAL GARDENS. The Tucson Botanical Gardens, 2150 N. Alvernon Way, are open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Take a Birds and Gardening Tour, at 9 a.m. Thursday mornings. This tour will teach you about plants and gardening practices that will attract birds to your garden. Exploring the Tucson Botanical Gardens highlights TBG history and plant trivia, and will familiarize visitors with native flora. With the Gardening For The Newcomer class, students learn to create eye-catching, appealing landscapes using drought-tolerant plants. Classes are from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. the first Thursday , and the third Saturday of the month. Cost is $5, $3 for TBG members. Regular admission to the gardens is $4, $3 for seniors, and free for members and children under 12. Call 326-9255 for information.

BOTANICAL'S PLANT SALE. 2150 N. Alvernon Way. Tucson Botanical Gardens annual Fall Plant Sale is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, October 4 and 5. The sale features plants that will attract birds to your garden, and features a large variety of xeriscape plants, cacti, herbs, succulents, and wildflowers. Call 326-9255 for information.

Listings COMPOST DEMONSTRATION. The Master Composters of the Tucson Organic Gardeners staff a compost demonstration site at the Tucson Botanical Gardens from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday to answer your composting questions. Call the Compost Assistance Line at 670-9158; or 883-0377.

GARDENING DEMONSTRATIONS. The following free demonstrations are given at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Extension Garden Center, 4210 N. Campbell Ave.: On October 8, It's Time To Plant Trees and Shrubs. The last part of the meeting takes time to look at samples of plants brought in for identification, diagnosis, and treatment. Demonstrations are held in the open and last about one hour. GREEN VALLEY GARDENING. Green Valley Baptist Church. 1111 N. La Cañada. The Green Valley Cooperative Extension presents a series of free gardening lectures and demonstrations on Tuesdays at 9 a.m. On October 7, it's Making Many From Few-- Plant Propagation. Call 1-520-648-0808 for information.

TOHONO PLANT SALE. Tohono Chul Park. 7366 N. Paseo del Norte. Now's the time to get those wildflower and native grass seeds, so you can enjoy those spectacular blossoms next spring. Visit the Park from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, October 4 and 5, for their annual Plant Sale. There will be lots to see and buy, with demonstrations and specimens in the Greenhouse. Call 742-6455 for information.

WILDFLOWER EXPERTS. Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. 2021 N. Kinney Road. Museum horticulturist Julie Emmett teaches all you need to know for a brilliant desert wildflower garden from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, October 4. She'll illustrate the colorful possibilities for your garden with a slide-lecture, followed by the basics of wildflower gardening. Cost is $20, $10 for members. Reservations are required.
