ARTNET. Plaza Palomino, on the southeast corner of Swan and Fort Lowell Roads. Join Artnet and the Tucson Chamber of Commerce for The Sights, Sounds & Flavors of the Southwest from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 5. This cultural showcase, featuring performances by Sueños Tangos, Alexander Tentser, and the Civic Orchestra of Tucson, was created to encourage collaboration between the arts and businesses, and to provide information about local arts activities. Representatives from Arizona Theatre Company, Arts Genesis, the Tucson Children's Museum, Tucson Symphony, and the Arizona Opera will be on hand. Tickets are $10, $6 for chamber members. Listings BUY A BOOK. UA Main Library, southwest corner of Cherry Street and the Mall. The Arizona Archaeological and Historical Society is once again selling books, dirt cheap, to benefit the Arizona State Museum Library from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 8. Books and magazines on anthropology, archaeology, geology, and history will be available from 25 cents to $2. Call 621-4695 for information.

CRAFT FAIR. Streams in the Desert Lutheran Church. 5360 E. Pima St. Join the Tucson Arts and Crafts Association for their Fall Arts and Crafts fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, October 4. There will be handcrafted items from more than 70 artists and artisans. Call 887-1652 for information.

DOUBLEWIDE SHOWROOM. The Screening Room. 127 E. Congress St. Get ready for original poetry, film, and music from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, October 9. Step away from your television! This monthly event exists to give emerging Tucson artists an opportunity to spellbind, entertain, and dazzle, and audiences a chance to get away from the tube. Admission is $2. DOWNTOWN SATURDAY. The downtown Arts District is the place to play all day and all night on October 4. The Tucson Street Rod Association celebrates its 25th anniversary with a parade beginning at 7 p.m. at Armory Park on Sixth Avenue, turning east on Broadway and winding back through downtown on Congress Street, all the way up to the Tucson Heritage Festival in El Presidio Park. Cars will then go to the Ronstadt Transit Center and remain on exhibit until 10 p.m. Join the Pasqua Yaqui Drum Group, dancers, and poets, featuring Elwood Pipestem from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Pennington between Scott and Sixth Avenues. Winsett Park will be rocking from 7 to 10 p.m. with Navajo singer/songwriter Clarence Clearwater. HERITAGE FESTIVAL. It's the biggest multi-ethnic festival around, The Tucson Heritage Experience Festival (formerly Tucson Meet Yourself) October 3 through 5, in El Presidio Park, downtown. There will be three stages, with entertainment by the Seven Pipers, Bwiya Toil, Club Espana de Tucson, the Azaela Trio, and others; delicious ethnic foods, folklore, folk arts, fun for the kids, and much more. Festival fun begins at 7 p.m. Friday, and continues from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Call 795-0834 for information.
