DOWNTOWN SATURDAY. The downtown Arts District is the place to play all day and all night on September 20. The Arts District goes Latin in a big way throughout the month of September celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month. Visit the Main Library Plaza at 101 N. Stone Ave. from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, and from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday for the Tamale Fiesta. There will be tamale plates and tamales by the dozen for sale, demonstrations, music, dancing, and entertainment by Mariachi Los Gallos, Ballet Folkloricos Del Sudoeste, Amphi High School's El Sol de Mexico, salsa bands, and much more. Proceeds from the sales will benefit the University of Arizona Hispanic Alumni Scholarship Fund. It's also the Second Annual Festival Latino Americano: a whirlwind of musica, cine, y dansa. Things will be hopping from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Ronstadt Transit Center with: Caribe-Latino performing Salsa and Maringue dances; the Colombian Trio, interpreting music from all over Latin America; Nicaragua Arte y Cultura, dancers performing Nicaraguan Dances; and more. Listings QUEER THANG. The University of Arizona Committee on Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual Studies hosts a back-to-school reception and meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 25, in the lobby of the Hotel Congress, 311 E. Congress St. There will be a cash-bar. The community is invited to attend.

WINE & ART. Tucson Center for Performing Arts, 408 S. Sixth Ave. It's an evening of fun, food, and culture at the Third Annual Fine Wine and Art, a fundraiser for Orts Theatre of Dance, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday, September 20. Sample wines from Sonoita Vineyards; enjoy delicious food; bid for treasures at the Art Auction; and catch a number of intimate performances by Orts. Advance tickets are $15 for wine tasting, $7.50 non-alcoholic; $20 and $10 at the door.
