LEON PARKER. Mat Bevel Institute. 530 N. Stone Ave. Jazz
percussionist Leon Parker performs solo in support of his new
CD, Awakening, at 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 15. Parker's
music infuses African, Native American, Caribbean, Latin, and

LINDLEY AND INGRAM. Berger Performing Arts Center. 1200
W. Speedway. David Lindley performs American folk, blues, and
bluegrass combined with elements from African, Arabic, Asian,
Celtic, Malagasy, and Turkish music. He'll be joined by drummer
Wally Ingram and special guest Sanjaya. Show time is 8 p.m. Friday,

RINCON SERIES. Rincon Congregational Church. 122 N. Craycroft
Road. Percussionist Todd Hammes, joined in a quartet by vocalist
Mary Redhouse, bassist Jim Carrer, and percussionist Will Clipman,
presents a mostly improvisational acoustic concert blending classical,
jazz and world music at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 13. A $5 donation

MUSIC IN THE PARK. The Arizona Symphonic Winds, under the
direction of László Veres, present the third concert
of the Tucson Parks and Recreation-sponsored fall concert series
at 7 p.m. Saturday, September 12, at Udall Park. Program features
the music of Von Suppe, Williams, and Bernstein, as well as Haydn's
Concerto for Trumpet, with soloist Mike Walk of the Tucson
Symphony. A free shuttle service between the park and Catalina
Village Shopping Center, one mile east of the park, will be available.

OUR TOWN CONCERT SERIES. Tohono Chul Park Performance Garden.
7366 N. Paseo del Norte. 742-6455. Throughout the fall, Tohono
Chul Park celebrates the theme of Our Town by highlighting
some of the talented musicians who live and ply their talents
here in Tucson. The Louisiana Levee Loungers start off
the season with traditional jazz and Dixieland at 8 p.m. Thursday,
September 10. Cost is $6, $3.50 for members and children 12 and

PLAZA SUITE FALL SERIES. St. Philip's Plaza. 4380 N. Campbell
Ave. The Brad Mehldau Trio kicks off the Tucson Jazz Society
fall season with a performance, featuring piano, from 6 to 9 p.m.

UA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA. UA Crowder Hall. Southeast corner
of Speedway and Park Avenue. The UA Symphony Orchestra starts
off the season at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 16, under new
director Jindong Cai. The orchestra opens with the second performance
of Joan Tower's Tambor, and also performs Franz Schubert's
"Symphony No. 8 in B minor," and Dmitri Shostakovich's
"Symphony N. 5 in D Minor, op. 47." Tickets are
$6, $5 for UA staff/faculty, $3 for students/senior citizens.

An Evening With Francis Poulenc, featuring the Arizona
State University Woodwinds Faculty Ensemble. Concert begins at
3 p.m. Sunday, September 13. The UA faculty perform An Evening
of 20th Century French Chamber Music, directed by Gregg
Hanson, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, September 14. Tickets are $10 general;

UA WIND SYMPHONY AND WIND ENSEMBLE. UA Crowder Hall. Southeast

17, The Wind Symphony, under the direction of Jay C. Rees and
Martin C. Reynolds, perform Jack Stamp's "Variations on a
Bach Chorale." Also on the program is Russian
Christmas music, by Alfred Reed, conducted by Gregg Hanson.
The Wind Ensemble, under Hanson's direction, will perform La
Procession du Rocio, by Joaquin Turina; James
Barnes' "Symphony No. 3, Movement 4, Finale"
(from the Water Music), by G.F. Handel; and
"Intermezzo" from Vanessa, by Samuel Barber.
Tickets are $6, $5 UA faculty/staff, $3 students/senior citizens.
