COLOSSAL BOOK SALE. Stock up on reference books, biographies, autobiographies, foreign language books, children's books, and much more at the Educational Enrichment Foundation's fifth annual Colossal Book Sale at the Park Mall, continuing through March 8. Call 325-8688 for information. DOWNTOWN SATURDAY. Once again, the downtown Arts District teems with activity all day and all night on Saturday, March 1. Dance to the explosive salsa sounds of Ache Pa Tí from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Ronstadt Transit Center, on the corner of Sixth Avenue and Congress Street; while you're there, hop a ride on a horse-drawn carriage, picking up passengers at the Ronstadt Center between Pennington and Congress streets. Stop by the corner of Sixth Avenue and Pennington Street for a look at art-in-motion at the Arts Brigade Street Mural Project, from 8 to 10 p.m. For information on other events, stop by the booth on Sixth Avenue and Congress Street, or call the Arts District Partnership at 624-9977. HISTORIC HOME TOURS. The Sosa-Carrillo-Fremont House Museum, a branch of the Arizona Historical Society, offers van tours of downtown historic districts including Barrio Historico, Armory Park, Congress Street and the El Presidio neighborhood. Tours run from 9 to 11 a.m. the fourth Friday of each month, with refreshments offered after the tour. Cost is $12 per person. Walking tours of the downtown historic districts are also offered at 10 a.m. Saturdays, departing from the Carrillo House, 151 S. Granada Ave., one block south of Congress St. in the TMA Historic Block. The walking tour, which includes a slide show, is $4. St. Michael of All Angels Episcopal Church. 602 N. Wilmot Road. Show your support and help to raise funds for the Tucson Ecumenical Council Legal Assistance (TECLA) and Derechos Humanos/Arizona Border Rights Coalition at a special benefit for Immigrant and Refugee Rights at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 4. This event will feature renowned poet and former Vice-Minister of Culture for Nicaragua, Daisy Zamora, as well as Canto Nuevo band Bwiya Toli. Desserts and beverages will be served. Tickets are $12, $7 for low-income individuals and $2 for students. Advance tickets are available for $10 at TECLA, 631 S. Sixth Ave. Call 623-5739 for information. KEEP IT CLEAN. The Pima County Department of Environmental Quality's Clean Air Program kicks off Clean Air Challenge 97, from 11 to noon Saturday, March 1, at El Presidio Park. This six-week celebration will promote clean air through weekly events such as Why Not Walk Week, Get on Board Week, Bike Week, and others. The St. Petersburg Ice Ballet makes a stop in Tucson to perform Sleeping Beauty at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, March 5 and 6. This fairy tale classic, performed to the music of Tchaikovsky, will be a delight for young and old alike. Prepare your sweet tooth for the 14th annual A Taste of Chocolate from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 2, at the Quality Inn (formerly the Ramada Inn Downtown.) This event will feature some of Tucson's finest chefs, caterers and chocolatiers, professional and amateur, who will prepare their chocolate favorites. Entrants will compete in a variety of categories, including: Cakes and Torts, Cookies and Brownies, and Beverages and Frozen Delicacies, all of which may be sampled in the ballroom. Advance tickets are $15, available at Picante/Yikes, The Blue Willow, The Landmark Café, Antigone Books, Bentley's House of Tea & Coffee, Cuppuccinos, Café Terra Cotta, The French Loaf and both Chocolate Iguana locations. Enjoy an evening of delicious food and enchanting entertainment while showing support for Tucson's youth by attending Top of the Town, at the Skyline Country Club, on Sunday, March 2. The evening will begin with cocktails at 6, dinner at 7 p.m., and live entertainment by Nancy Davis-Booth and Jeff Haskell. Proceeds from this event will benefit Youth On Their Own, a non-profit organization that supports homeless youth in school or trying to return for their high school diploma.
