AIDSWALK '96. There's still time to register for the largest single fundraising event in Tucson for people living with HIV/AIDS, the AIDSWALK. The walk begins at 7 a.m. Sunday, October 13, with sign-in at the Rillito Downs. There will be an interfaith service at 8 a.m., followed by opening ceremonies at 9 a.m. Call 322-9191 for registration and information. ARIZONA AIDS QUILT. The One In Ten Repertory Theatre of Tucson hosts a series of workshops for the conception and creation of panels to be displayed during their production run of Remember My Name, by David Lemos. Panels gathered will be sent to the Names Project in San Francisco, where they will be joined to the national quilt after opening night. Call 293-5397 for information, or if you've lost a friend or loved one and would like to create a panel in their memory. CASA CAR SHOW. More than 900 vehicles, an international food festival, quarter midget races and live entertainment by The Revivers highlight the 17th annual Casa Car Show from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, October 12, at Reid Park. This annual benefit for Casa de los Niños, Tucson's home for abused and neglected children, has something for the entire family. A super-slick, fully-loaded, mint 1986 Corvette Convertible, Indy Pace Car Edition, will be raffled off. Raffle tickets are available at El Campo Tires, The Pink Motel or by calling 624-5600. A free festival shuttle service is available from Hi Corbett Field beginning at 10 a.m. FESTIVE FLOATS. There's still time to sign up for the second annual Downtown Holiday Parade, presented by the Downtown Arts & Business Alliance, the City of Tucson, the Arts District Partnership and the Tucson Children's Museum. Application deadline is October 18. HIGH ON THE HOG. The Wildcat House. 1801 N. Stone Ave. Break out the leather and join HOGtoberfest from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, October 13. This annual gathering of bikers and friends of bikers includes bike games, a tattoo contest, live music by Tall Paul and The Mudflap Band, the Voodoo Dudes and more. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Make-A-Wish foundation. Admission is $10. Call 749-8984 for information. HOUSE OF NEIGHBORLY SERVICE. Come help celebrate the golden anniversary of the House of Neighborly Service beginning at 6:30 p.m. Friday, October 11, with a cocktail party, dinner, dance and silent auction at the Santa Rita Ballroom. On Saturday, October 12, visit the House at 243 W. 33rd St. for a carnival for the whole family, including games, homemade food, music and more. It's time again for one of Tucson's best-known and best-loved festivals, the Tucson Heritage Experience (formerly Tucson Meet Yourself). El Presidio Park, downtown, awakens with a burst of colorful costumes, exciting folk dances, and a dizzying array of food and artist booths October 11 through 13. Festival hours are 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. |
