ENVIRONMENTHOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE. The Tucson/Pima County hazardous waste disposal site, 2440 W. Sweetwater Drive, is open from 8 a.m. to noon every Friday and Saturday for household waste disposal. Outreach centers are open from 8 a.m. to noon the first Saturday of the month at the following locations: Eastside City Hall, 7575 E. Speedway; TFD Fire Academy, 797 E. Broadway. Find out what you can do to aid in the development of sustainable communities at the Women for Sustainable Technologies Conference from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, October 5. This year's conference, entitled Women Creating Sustainability through Individual Action, Policy and New Technology, will include three workshop sessions: Energy-Efficient New Technologies, Making Choices for Sustainable Building and Developing Sustainable Communities. Cost is $40 and includes lunch. There will be a kick-off event at 7:30 p.m. Friday, October 4, including a slide-lecture on straw bale construction with Judy Knox, with a reception and dancing to follow.
