GARDENINGBOTANICAL GARDENS. The Tucson Botanical Gardens, 2150 N. Alvernon Way, is now open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. The TBG nursery is closed until October. Guided tours of the gardens are at 10 a.m. Wednesday and Saturday. TBG's new climate controlled tropical exhibit opens with a flourish from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 8, with games, stories and crafts for the kids and free piña colada eegee's for those wearing tropical shirts. The Arizona Nursery Association and Arizona Municipal Water Users Association have started a plant of the month program in order to meet the demand for more water-efficient plants. The Master Composters of the Tucson Organic Gardeners staff a compost maintenance site at TBG from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday to answer all of your composting questions. Join Native Seeds/SEARCH gardener Bob Stone for a two-hour desert gardening workshop from 7 to 9 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at the NS/S Sylvester House Annex, 2130 N. Alvernon Way. Workshop is open to all and includes hands-on experience with where and when to plant, garden bed preparation, plant care and harvesting, desert composting, growing plants for seeds, seed cleaning and storage and local gardening resources.
