Performances This Week

ISIS THEATRE DANCE. Tucson Center for the Performing Arts. 40 E. 14th St. Formerly known as The Olde Women's Group, the Isis Theatre Dance Company presents its first public performance, Premiere Variations, at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 20 and 21. The performance is a mixture of jazz and contemporary dance. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children, available in advance or at the door. AUDITION NOTICE. The Isis Dance Theater Company is holding auditions for intermediate to advanced ballet, jazz and/or modern dancers over age 30 for forthcoming fall and spring productions. The company is also looking for actors and singers over age 30 for an original, one-act musical production. Auditions are by appointment only, and will continue until all positions are filled. The Desert Terrace Dance Club presents That's Entertainment III from noon until 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 22. The dance features numbers choreographed by Ms. Linda Dean and proceeds benefit the Tucson Ronald McDonald House. Admission in the form of cash or household and paper goods will be accepted. ECSTATIC TRANCE DANCE. The Little Temple Community Healing Arts Institute. 721 N. TANGO EN TUCSON. The UA Dance Division hosts The Asado and Milonga, a dance barbeque sponsored by Club Rio Platense, on Sunday, March 15, at the UA Ina Gittings Dance Theater, east end of the UA mall. Cost is $15 per person. Studios will meet Monday through Thursday beginning at 8:30 p.m., and are open to the public for the cost of $5 per person. Classes for the workshop Tango En Tucson continue through Saturday, March 21. Studio faculty members include Carolina Zokalski and Diego Difaclo, Aurora and George Firpo, Téte and Silvia, Daniel and Maria, and Michael Walker and Luren Belluci. Events This Week

AFRICAN MARKET DAY. UA Mall. The UA African American Student Affairs Office and the Tucson Black Chamber of Commerce sponsor the fifth-annual Tucson Soul Explosion & African American Market Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 25. More than 50 vendors will be selling African books, hand-crafted jewelry and clothing, as well as everyday African household products. The event will include fashion demonstrations and various public service information booths. Call 621-3419 for information.

ARTS BRIGADE OR BUST. The Tucson Arts Brigade presents a multi-media arts event from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday, March 21, to raise funds for TAB's first mural of 1998 entitled, We Give Birth to Choice Each Day. The mural is in progress at the location of the fundraiser, 101 W. Fifth St. Featured at the benefit will be DJ Kidd Squidd of KXCI, poetry readings by members of the Dead Poets Society and Jessica Jaramillo, a cake walk, slide shows, original art raffle, and live music by some of Tucson's favorite bands.

CITIZEN'S BICYCLE PARADE. Join hundreds of fellow Tucsonans at 11 a.m. Sunday, March 22, for a three-mile parade ride from the corner of Tucson Boulevard and Sixth Street to the Fourth Avenue Street Fair. Festivities mark the close of celebrations for Bike Week '98, and begin in front of Rincon Market at 10 a.m. Call 791-4372 for information.

DANCE JAM. Mat Bevel Institute. 530 N. Stone Ave. Come one and all to celebrate the equinox at the Club Rhythm Dance Jam, from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday, March 21. This smoke-free dance infusion includes a fun mix of tunes including African, Caribbean, World Music, Tribal and lots of good, old-fashioned rock and roll. DOWNTOWN SATURDAY. Downtown Tucson is alive all day and all night Saturday, March 21. This week features "Big Band Dance Night" with Andy Cheers and his Big Band, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Ronstadt Transit Center. Visit the Bandshell in Armory Park for the second-annual Equinox Festival celebration. The Tucson Musicians Showcase features Laura Cohn at Magpie's Patio, 605 N. QUEERFLIX. Wingspan. 300 E.
