GARDENINGCONTAINER GARDEN CONTEST. Tohono Chul Park, 7366 N. Paseo del Norte, seeks entries for its Container Garden Design Competition during the Wildflower Festival, April 13 and 14. Competition features both commercial and individual divisions with three categories: one gallon and under, one to five gallons, and up to 24" diameter pot. The following lectures are offered this week: Landscape architect Phil Van Wyck presents The Changing Garden at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 14. Van Wyck stresses the importance of teamwork in planning a garden that continues to meet its changing needs. Cost is $2, free to members. All lectures meet in the Wilson Room. Reservations required. The Arizona Nursery Association and Arizona Municipal Water Users Association have started a plant of the month program in order to meet the demand for more water-efficient plants. The March plant of the month is Justicia. Visit your local participating nursery and ask for your free Plant of the Month brochure. BOTANICAL GARDENS. The Tucson Botanical Gardens, 2150 N. Alvernon Way, is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. Nursery hours are 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday through Saturday. Guided tours of the gardens are offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday and Saturday. Regular attractions include the following: Birds and Gardening tours at 9 a.m. Tuesday; Gardening for the Newcomer from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. the first Thursday and third Saturday of the month; plant clinics; the Native Seeds/SEARCH mini-museum of ethnobotanical displays, open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; and the TBG library, open 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
