Opening This Week

CHILDSPLAY. Temple of Music and Art Cabaret Theater. 330 S. Scott Ave. 884-4875. Opening January 24 and continuing through February 2: The Short Tree and the Bird That Could Not Sing, a deceptively simple puppet show about friendship through the seasons. Continuing through February 1: La Malinche, an historical drama of passion and power set during Cortez's conquest of Mexico. ARIZONA YOUTH THEATRE. 5671 E. Speedway. 546-9805. Continuing through February 8: Midsummer Night's Dream, as performed by children, teens and adult actors of the troupe. Continuing through March 22: Girl of the Golden West, or No Noose Is Good News, a Western musical comedy from a rugged Arizona mining camp, wherein a notorious outlaw finds redemption in the love of a good woman. Regular show times are 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 7 and 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 3 and 7 p.m. Sunday. AUDITION NOTICE. Victory Productions Musical Theatre is seeking male and female actors for its spring performance of Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Auditions are from 7 to 10 p.m. January 28 through 30; 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, February 1; and 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday, February 2, in the Arizona Ballroom, 5536 E. Grant Road. Actors should have a minimum of 16 bars of music from a prepared song (an accompanist will be provided), and wear suitable clothing for possible dancing. Call 722-4384 for information.
