FIESTA DE LOS VAQUEROS. Parade entries are being accepted for the 71st La Fiesta de los Vaqueros parade on Thursday, February 22. Deadline for entries is January 12. Tickets for the rodeo are available at all Dillard's ticket outlets, neighborhood community centers, El Con Mall, Park Mall, Tucson Mall, Foothills Mall, Eastside City Hall, Centennial Hall, Davis Monthan AFB, Arizona Hatters and the Rodeo Grounds box office. MALANKA CELEBRATION. The Ukrainian American Society of Tucson hosts a Malanka, a dinner/dance celebration of the New Year according to the old Julian calendar, on Saturday, January 13, at the Tucson Woman's Club, 6245 E. Bellevue. A no-host bar opens at 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Tom Schenek's band gets your feet moving from 8 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $20, $10 for students. Reservations required. MLK COMMEMORATION. Join in the 11th community wide Interfaith Commemoration of the birth of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at 7 p.m. Sunday, January 14, at Catalina United Methodist Church, 2700 E. Speedway. The hour-long program features Ms. Silvy Edmonds, activist and financial advisor, as keynote speaker on the theme Opening the Gates. Representatives from Tucson's Protestant, Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Native American and Baha'i communities will also join in the program. Winning art creations from the Anne Frank Message of Hope exhibition will also be on display. Call 577-9393 for information.

MINERAL MANIA. The Arizona Sonora Desert Museum ushers in the 42nd annual Tucson Gem and Mineral Show with three separate events: A free slide lecture meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 16, at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Society clubhouse, 3727 E. Blacklidge Dr. The Gem and Mineral Collector's Preview and Sale begins at 4 p.m. Friday, January 26, at the Desert Museum, 2021 N. Kinney Road. A reception catered by the Ironwood Restaurant will be followed by silent auctions of mineral specimens. Tickets are $30, $25 for museum members, with additional tickets for $15. The fourth annual Mineral Madness Show and Sale runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, January 27, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, January 28, at the museum. FOOD FAIRE. Experience the charm of a European style open-air market from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Saturday at Plaza Palomino, Swan and Fort Lowell roads. The gourmet food faire features fresh produce, herbs, coffee, arts and crafts, live music and more. Call 795-1177 for information.

FARMERS MARKET. St. Philip's Plaza, Campbell Avenue and River Road, hosts a farmers market every Thursday from 2 to 6 p.m., featuring local artisans and food vendors. The Humane Society will also be featuring a selection of pets for adoption each week. Call 628-9811 for information.
