ENVIRONMENTHOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE. The Tucson/Pima County hazardous waste disposal site, 2440 W. Sweetwater Drive, is open from 8 a.m. to noon every Friday and Saturday for household waste disposal. Stop by the "Drop and Swap" table, where you can leave your left-over soaps, paints, waxes, etc. for someone else to use. Outreach centers are open from 8 a.m. to noon the first Saturday of the month at the following locations: Eastside City Hall, 7575 E. Speedway; TFD Fire Academy, 797 E. Ajo Way; and the Park and Ride parking lot located on Ina Road one block west of Oracle Road (at Via Ponte). For more information, call 740-3340.OUTREACH RECYCLING. The Tucson Clean & Beautiful Outreach Recycling Program will be open from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, December 6. This is the last Outreach Recycling opportunity as the sites will close after the sixth. Collection centers will accept aluminum, tin, glass food and drink containers, plastic milk, water and soft drink bottles, No. 2 plastic bottles, corrugated cardboard, newspapers and magazines. Magazines should be in brown paper bags. All containers should be rinsed and flattened. Outreach locations are: Tucson Mall, 4500 N. Oracle Road, south of Robinson's-May; El Con Mall, 3611 E. Broadway behind Penny's, and the Ina Road Landfill, located just west of I-10. Call the Re-Think-It information line at 791-5000. RECYCLING CENTERS. The following neighborhood drop-off centers are open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily: Joaquin Murrieta Park, Mansfield Park, McCormick Park, Morris K. Udall Park, Golf Links Sports Park, Rodeo Park, Kennedy Park, Randolph Park, and the Los Reales Landfill. Hours at Los Reales are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. For directions and holiday hours, call 791-5085. Multi-material recycling facilities are located at Freidman Recycling, 1825 W. Price Road, near Roger and Romero roads, 696-0660; and Weyerhaeuser Recycling, 5455 Old Nogales Highway, 294-6944. Be informed, independent and environmentally friendly with help from Women Build Houses, a non-profit network dedicated to increasing women's access to building skills. They offer a host of sliding-scale classes, including greywater irrigation (household drainwater from sinks and showers), straw bale technology, eco-friendly household chemicals and cleaners, and passive solar design.
