ARIZONA AIDS QUILT. The One In Ten Repertory Theatre of Tucson hosts a series of workshops for the conception and creation of panels to be displayed during the production run of Remember My Name, by David Lemos. Panels gathered will be sent to the Names Project in San Francisco, where they'll be joined to the National Quilt after opening night. Great Scots (and Irish)! Celebrate your heritage, or simply come and enjoy the day-long festivities at the tenth annual Tucson Scottish Games and Celtic Festival from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, November 2. Watch the games, wander among the clan tents in search of clues to your ancestry, order a kilt, and more. There will be music by the Seven Pipers Society, Brother, Alex Beaton, Arm & Hammer, Ceol Sean, and The McMorrows, along with dancing, singing and loads of food and malted beverages. Experience the ancient Mexican tradition of honoring departed souls during the annual Día de los Muertos program at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 31, at the Arizona Historical Society, 949 E. Check out galleries, street performers and unique downtown Tucson sights all day and night Saturday, November 2. Catch a 4 p.m. showing of Rashomon at The Screening Room, 127 E. Congress St. The rich Caribbean sounds of Steel Jam spice up the Ronstadt Transit Center from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.; the Evan Dain & Ice-9 Blues Quartet performs from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Arizona Alley; and Sueños Tangos dances up a storm from 7 to 10 p.m. on Pennington Street between Scott and Sixth avenues. Join the Literacy Volunteers of Tucson begining at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 2, at the Tucson Convention Center, 260 S Church Ave. for a celebration of books and literacy. The day begins with booksignings by local authors Richard W. Etulain, Patricia Preciado-Martin, Jack Dykinga, Charles Bowden, Richard Paul Evans, John Vornhold and Janni Lee Summer. The Northwest Fire District Haunted Safe Houses are open from 6 to 10 p.m. at 1520 W. Orange Grove Road and 8165 N. Wade Road. These haunted houses are a serious scare, but there will also be fun rooms for younger children (and parents) who prefer games to ghouls. Admission is free, but donations of non-perishable food items will be accepted for the Community Food Bank. Call 742-4749. SUNDAE IN THE PARK. Spend the day with some of Tucson's most talented students and their teachers begining at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 3, with Sundae in the Park with George (Garcia). There will be outdoor entertainment, an old-fashioned ice cream social, mariachi and folklorico groups, art exhibits, and a performance by Superintendent Dr. George F. Garcia. Church Ave. The sixth annual Tucson Indian Days Celebration gets underway Friday, November 1, with the celebration of native foods, live music, Waila bands, artisan booths, powwows, and women's art continuing through Sunday, November 3. Admission is $5 per day, $10 for a three-day pass. Children under 14 are free. There is also a free job fair from noon to 4 p.m. Friday. Call the Tucson Indian Center at 884-7131 for information. |
