DOWNTOWN SATURDAY. Check out galleries, street performers and unique downtown Tucson sights all day and night Saturday, September 7 as the Arts District goes Latin. There will be a Festival Latino Americano at the Ronstadt Transit Center from 7 to 10 p.m., with a whirlwind of Latin song, dance and music including performances by Caribe-Latino, Nicaraguan dances by Cuadro Nica, plus visiting dancers representing Peru, Chile, Argentina and Panama. At 7 p.m. on Pennington Street between Scott and Sixth avenues, Tucson's own Sueños Tangos perform passionate and graceful tango routines to live accompaniment. Visit the information booth at Sixth Avenue and Congress Street for a schedule of events; or call the Arts District in advance at 624-9977 for information. PARTY AT THE PLAZA. 2940 N. Swan Road. Experience the charm of a European style open-air market from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursdays at Plaza Palomino. Enjoy gourmet food, fresh produce, herbs, coffee, arts and crafts, live music and more. Also enjoy the Plaza's Gourmet Food Faires Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There's live music, organic produce, gourmet food and southwest specialties to sample and purchase. WALKTOBERFEST ALERT. Get your friends, neighbors, kids and colleagues together for Walktoberfest '96 on Sunday, October 6. Teams will compete for prizes, with individual walkers also welcome. After the walk there will be an awards ceremony with live music from Pulse; Tuffy Toro and Wilber and Wilma Wildcat will be on hand to visit with the kids; munchies from Eegees and more.
