STAFF PICK: We're so lucky to live in a climate where the
ice-cream trucks operate even in the middle of winter. It's a
pleasure to hear them coming down the street, playing "Turkey
in the Straw" or "Popeye the Sailor Man," knowing
you can run out and wave them down for a Creamsicle. Each truck
is individually customized and decorated. Ice-cream trucks are
the ultimate mom-and-pop microenterprise, a vestige of the days
when milkmen and produce sellers and even knife sharpeners announced
their products and services with distinctive sounds. We've heard
of neighborhoods populated by evil Stepford Grown-ups that've
banned ice cream trucks. Don't let it happen in your neighborhood!
Preserve this vital piece of Americana, at the very least by patronizing
them every chance you get.
