Best Local Morning Show

Mojo & Betsy
KRQQ-FM, 93.7

READERS' PICK: One competitor to this long-time team likened them to "the Regis & Kathie Lee of local radio." We guess that was a dig, but some of us happen to love Regis Philbin! Mojo & Betsy have one of the longest-running and most successful shows on Tucson radio, so they've got to be doing many things right. Over the years, they've done some classic phone scams, including our all-time favorite involving the fake amputee and the insurance company. (If you missed it, boy did you miss it!) They also have "Confession Wednesdays," where people say the absolute stupidest things and think no one will recognize their voices. Thank goodness they did away with the "War of the Roses," which was bound to lead to domestic violence sooner or later. Naysayers may complain they're not the most original pair, but they know their audience...and their audience loves them.

READERS' POLL RUNNER-UP: Now, if you had the illegitimate son of Regis and Kathie Lee and Ozzy Osbourne, you'd have Ted Stryker over at KFMA-FM, 92.1. Stryker is out there somewhere, circling, looking for a landing strip on the Place Called Reality. Thus far, he hasn't touched down. The greatest compliment we can possibly pay him is that we listen to him even though the ("New Rock") music he plays bites our aged-ass with serrated teeth. He's got an easy delivery laced with unforced humor and lots of charm. His hairstyle looks like a mixture of Pee-Wee Herman and Sugar Ray (the band)--but it's radio, so he can get away with it. Though he's the head-and-shoulders favorite among a vocal segment of our staff, the readers have spoken--so for this year, to Mojo & Betsy he must bow down!
