Best Bar Food
Bob Dobbs' Bar & Grill
READERS' PICK: Dobbs' from-scratch, served-hot-with-the-skins-on French fries take the cake (though the deep-fried clams give 'em a run for their money). Oh, and the onion rings and wings...So much fried food, and all the time till your heart explodes to eat it. On the lighter side, Dobbs' does offer a veggie plate. But let's face it--if you have any sense at all, you'll ask for an extra side of that rich, creamy ranch dressing. And if the appetizers do their job, you'll stay for one of Dobbs' famous garlic-and-Worcestershire spiked burgers, deli-sliced turkey pastrami sandwiches, or the nightly special. This is the good stuff.
READERS' POLL RUNNER-UP--TIE: The trend in bar couture
seems to be away from burgers and fries and on toward pasta, seafood
and Caesar salads. And if this is the kind of fare you like when
you order that fancy beer with the lemon in it, you'll find none
more fresh and satisfying than at Kingfisher Bar &Grill,
2564 E. Grant Road; or Cushing Street Bar &Grill, 343
S. Meyer Ave. The former serves the best mussels in town, as well
as a damn fine New England-style clam chowder. And Cushing Street's
tomato-eggplant pasta or pork tenderloin with peach glaze are
sublime. Oh yeah, and both have burgers and fries, too.
