2. Read this article THE WINNER OF TOM'S MUSIC Trivia Quiz of a fortnight ago is Mike Adkins. Mike got a virtually perfect score. We had a couple discrepancies due to dueling reference guides, but all in all, he's a baaad man. He had a couple wrong answers which he scratched out and wrote in the correct ones. And I was going to deduct a point because he's in advertising, but hey, he's the only one who had them all right. The question most often missed was the hitless best-selling album. Almost everyone answered (Untitled) by Led Zeppelin, often referred to as Led Zeppelin IV. Since "Stairway To Heaven" was never released as a single, they figure that's the correct answer. However, "Rock and Roll" and "Black Dog" were both released as singles and hit the charts, so the answer is Sgt. Pepper's. Thanks for all the entries. Most people did really well. And I want you to know that I didn't ask the question about Wink Martindale. That was A. Bradley Dongass III, being editor-like. The questions appear in the October 10 issue. Here are the answers: 1. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band 2. Among the No. 1 songs with all foreign-language lyrics are: "Eres Tu" by Mocedades; "La Bamba" by Los Lobos (but not by Ritchie Valens); "Dominique" by The Singing Nun (who committed suicide not long ago); and "Sukiyaki" by Kyo Sakamoto (who died along with 500 other passengers when a jumbo jet crashed into Mt. Fuji in 1985). 3. "(Bye Bye Miss) American Pie." I know this to be true, but for the life of me can't understand why it's true. 4. Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em 5. 10cc, and The Lovin' Spoonful 6. Walter Becker and Donald Fagen 7. James Brown, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Sam Cooke, Ray Charles, Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino, The Everly Brothers, and Bill Haley 8. The New Yardbirds 9. James Seals and Dash Crofts 10. Hall & Oates. Their No. 1 hit song about Patty Hearst was "You're A Rich Girl (But You've Gone Too Far)" 11. Thriller, by Michael Jackson 12. The Eagles 13. Aretha Franklin, as Top R&B Female Artist 14. Heart! Don't shoot me; I'm only the messenger. 15. "The Long And Winding Road" 16. "Stars," by Simply Red 17. Kris Kristofferson 18. "The Loco-Motion," by Little Eva (songwriter Carole King's babysitter) in the '60s, Grand Funk in the '70s, and Kylie Minogue in the '80s. We're waiting for Kenny G's version in the '90s. 19. Five-foot-two Bonnie Bramlett 20. The Rascals 21. True 22. False: Unfortunately, it was 1969's "My Ding-A-Ling." 23. True 24. True 25. False: Neil Diamond was, however, an accomplished fencer. 26.
