10K AND 5K RUN. El Tour de Tucson presents the first-ever
Dove Mountain El Tour 10K and 5K run, at
7:30 a.m. Sunday, September 20, at Dove Mountain Blvd. (Tangerine
Road, two miles west of Thornydale). Cyclists of all ages and
abilities run through Dove Mountain, in the foothills of the Tortolita
Mountains, as part of the El Tour Kick-off Fiesta which begins
the 60-day El Tour season. The beneficiary is Tu Nidito Children's
Hospice. All finishers receive medallions, and there are awards
for age categories and top-place male and female finishers. Aid
stations are available with fruit and water. Results are printed
in the October/November Tail Winds, and are mailed to all

BOWLING TOURNAMENT. There is a Senior Olympic Activity
Series Bowling Tournament at Fiesta Lanes, 501 W. River Road,
for seniors 50 and over, from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday, September
22. There are gender divisions, individual competitions, and age
categories. Cost is $10, $5 adapted. If you attend the clinic
and the tournament, the price for both is $15, $6 adapted. Call

PUNT, PASS, KICK. Pima County Parks and Recreation sponsors
open try-outs for the Annual Punt, Pass and Kick Competition.
The competition is at 10 a.m. Sunday, September 20, with check-in
at 9 a.m., in the stadium at Tucson Electric Park. It's open to
Southern Arizona boys and girls ages 8 to 15. Winners advance
to the sectional competition on Saturday, November 14, at the
Tucson Electric Park, and from there to the regional competition
at Tempe Sun Devil Stadium on Sunday, December 6. Winners advancing
to the regional competition receive tickets for themselves and
two family members for the Arizona Cardinals vs. New York Giants
game. Although this is an open competition, pre-registration is
requested to ensure sufficient staff are on hand the day of the
event. A copy of the participant's birth certificate is required
