CALLING ALL ROCKET SCIENTISTS. Judges and volunteers are needed to participate in the 47th annual International Science and Engineering Fair, May 5 through 11, at the Tucson Convention Center, 260 S. Church Ave. More than 1,200 high school students from 35 countries will compete. The fair is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 9, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, May 10. CARNIVAL ARTISTE. The Central Arts Collective hosts its annual fundraising Carnival from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at 188 E. Congress. Have the Muffin Ladies read your future, dig for prizes in the coat pockets of the He/She Coat Person, Go Fish, or indulge in the urge to make graffiti art. Check out galleries, street performers and the unique sights of downtown Tucson all day and night Saturday, May 4. It's a Street Symphony this weeks as the Tucson Symphony Orchestra takes over the Ronstadt Transit Center for two free performances. Maestro Bob Bernhardt says goodbye to Tucson in this final performance. Other events include a Cinco de Mayo celebration at the Main Library, the Tucson Folk Festival, other musicians throughout downtown, the return of Thee Tragidiots and horse and buggy rides. The annual Bachelor Auction to benefit St. Jude's Children Hospital goes to bid at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at the Plaza Hotel, 1900 E. Speedway. Admission is $25, with bids beginning at $50. Major credit cards accepted. There is also a live auction, tostada bar and no-host bar. Eligible bachelors are still welcome to participate. Celebrate Cinco de Mayo at Fiesta Mexicana from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at Hi Corbett Field, located in Reid Park. Events include mariachi music, children's activities, dance instruction and performances and plenty of food and drink. The evening is highlighted by a performance by Ballet Folklorico Magisterial Nuevo Leon. Tickets are $10, available at Beaver's Band Box, Baca Upholstery, Danzarte Studios, the Parent Connection and at the gate. The Citizens for Solar host the 14th annual Solar Potluck and Exhibition from 9 a.m. to sundown Saturday, May 4, at Catalina State Park, 11570 N. Oracle Road. Hope, Healing and High Jinks, a stand-up comedy and improvisation benefit for the Tucson AIDS Project, happens at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, at Laffs Comedy Caffe, 2900 E. Broadway. Local talents Danny Boskowitz, Dave Fitzsimmons, Gary Hood and Debbie Rice along with their "comedians in training" who are living with HIV/AIDS, do their best to split your gut and bring a little humor to this deadly disease. BARRIO CUISINE. Alva B. Church Ave. Teens and adults are invited to participate in this free hands-on workshop. A second workshop is scheduled for May 18.
