ENVIRONMENT
HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE. The Tucson/Pima County hazardous
waste disposal site, 2440 W. Sweetwater Drive, is open from 8
a.m. to noon every Friday and Saturday for household waste disposal.
Stop by the "Drop and Swap" table, where you can leave
your left-over soaps, paints, waxes, etc. for someone else to
use. Outreach centers are open from 8 a.m. to noon the first Saturday
of the month at the following locations: Eastside City Hall, 7575
E. Speedway; TFD Fire Academy, 797 E. Ajo Way; and the Park and
Ride parking lot located on Ina Road one block west of Oracle
Road (at Via Ponte). For more information, call 740-3340.
PERMACULTURE BREAKFAST. The Permaculture Drylands Institute
has a monthly, fun-filled discussion of sustainable living in
drylands. They meet the second Tuesday of each month for a community
breakfast at 7 a.m. at the Grill, 100 E. Congress St. Call 572-1672

RECYCLING CENTERS. The following neighborhood drop-off
centers are open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily: Joaquin Murrieta
Park, Mansfield Park, McCormick Park, Morris K. Udall Park, Golf
Links Sports Park, Rodeo Park, Kennedy Park, Randolph Park and
the Los Reales Landfill. Hours at Los Reales are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Monday through Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. For directions
and holiday hours, call 791-5085. Multi-material recycling facilities
are located at Freidman Recycling, 1825 W. Price Road, near Roger
and Romero roads, 696-0660; and Weyerhaeuser Recycling, 5455 Old

GARDENING DEMONSTRATION. The Pima County Cooperative Extension
offers free gardening workshops every Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the
Extension Garden Center, 4210 N. Campbell Ave., and again at 1
p.m. at the Wilmot Library, 530 N. Wilmot Road. Selecting,
Planting and Caring for Desert Adapted Trees is the topic
for Wednesday, March 24. Call 626-5161 for information on upcoming
topics.
WILDFLOWER WALKS. Tohono Chul Park. 7366 N. Paseo del Norte.
742-6455. These docent-guided walks take place at 10 a.m. every
Monday, Wednesday and Friday through April 30. There is a suggested
donation of $2.
HYDROPONIC GARDENERS. Tucson High School Cafeteria. 400
N. Second Ave. Hydroponic Gardeners of Tucson meets the third
Wednesday of every month for a 6:30 p.m. social and 7 p.m. meeting.
