books, they sell the whole idea of reading. Their marketing is
so seductive that even the most committed functional illiterate
will want to take a book home to bed. Is that so evil? Committed
readers and book lovers are even more likely to fall under Borders'
charms: In addition to sheer volume (and those seductive volume
discounts), their buyers are some bunch of smarties in Madison,
Wisconsin (a known Smartie Vortex), who know what you want even
before you do.
