Best View From Above 'A' Mountain STAFF PICK: The best place to get an up-close-and-personal
overview of the Old Pueblo is from the top of the 'A' on Sentinel
Peak. But first you must go to Pat's Chili Dogs on Grande Avenue,
secure some chow and your favorite beverage. (This is mandatory.)
As a secondary item, you might consider bringing a tourist. Take
Congress Street west to the weird intersection where Silverbell
Road begins. Turn left on Cuesta, and follow it until you can
park at the base of the 'A'. Take your dogs and your binoculars
and walk right on up (it's not smooth) to the top. Have a seat.
Eat a dog. Take a gander. Does the Santa Cruz have water running?
Is the Hotel Congress sign on? Can you see San Xavier mission?
Rincon Peak? San Augustín church? The UA football stadium?
The airport? The site of the Convent? The quarry where all those
volcanic rocks around the University came from? Don Diamond's
house? Your house? Of course you can! (Well, maybe not
your house.) That's where we're at--that's where we live. So pick
up your trash, head on down, and do something to contribute to
this unobstructed view of our community.
