Best Sunday Brunch
The Doubletree Hotel
445 S. Alvernon Way
READERS' PICK: If there's a metaphor for excess, it has
to be the Sunday brunch at the Doubletree Hotel. No matter how
hungry you think you are when you arrive, it doesn't take long
before you've reached maximum capacity; and with so many tempting
stations to sample, it's downright frustrating to find yourself
out of room before you've made the rounds to each and every one.
The dilemma is whether you prefer traditional breakfast fare (the
omelet bar is a grand place to get this tack under way), or to
opt for more midday repast at the carving stations where ham,
turkey and rare roast beef ease temptingly off the bone. If you
can pace yourself, it may be possible to do both--particularly
if you arrive promptly at 10 a.m. when the brunch begins, and
stay until the last plates are cleared shortly after 2 p.m. An
oyster bar gleaming with mountains of shaved ice offers several
fresh seafood options, and the pastry selection is an exercise
in decadence that's beyond compare. Beverages, including complimentary
champagne, are provided and generously refilled often. At nearly
$20 a pop per adult ($16.50 for seniors over age 55; $8.50 for
children ages 5 to 12) you definitely want to show up here with
time to spare and famished to the core. This is not the place
to feign a dainty appetite.
