Best Sports Bar

READERS' PICK: Famous Sam's (See Best Neighborhood Bar.)

READERS' POLL RUNNER-UP: Remember that series of beer commercials where some guy would hit the TV with a beer bottle and suddenly baseball players were tossing a fish around, or some hapless lawyer was getting chased down by a bull? Behold. If this isn't a case of life imitating bad TV with spectacular results, we don't know what is. It's the damnedest thing, but Sakura's sushi sports bar works. Not only is it complete with the requisite array of screens showing 10 different games at once, but this place also serves some of the best sushi in town. Sushi...and sports? Yeah, it still sounds pretty weird, but real men obviously like it. Located at 6534 E. Tanque Verde Road.

A REAL SCREAM: Someone on our staff paid this place the highest of compliments. He said the San Fran Grill, 3922 N. Oracle Road, is a great sports bar to go to even though he doesn't drink. The munchies are delicious, full meals are served, and there are TVs positioned at just about every conceivable angle. Monday Night Football is an event at San Fran, which somehow manages to attract almost equal numbers of fans for both sides (except when the Dallas Cowboys are playing, in which case everybody is rooting for the other team). But don't even think about rooting for the other team when the Wildcats are playing football or basketball. A great, warm, friendly place to have a meal and watch a ballgame. Oh yeah, and maybe have a drink or two.
