Jerry Hall's House
1402 E. Water St.

STAFF PICK: Since 1982, Jerry Hall has been soldering scary water-heater animals, happy muffler people and other bizarre scrap-metal beings to proudly present in his yard at the corner of Water Street and Highland Avenue. The landscaper originally created the art as a therapeutic way to ward off loneliness after a painful divorce; but that's all changed. Now not only do gawkers continuously stop by to visit (thus ending the loneliness), but the sculptures command a respectable price in a local art gallery. You might say Jerry's become a popular guy, but it certainly hasn't gone to his head: If you're nice and you visit at a decent hour (like during the early evening on a weekday), there's a good chance he'll give you a tour which includes the incredible back yard. Nobody walks away unamazed by this folk-art paradise, where water-spewing metal elephants and wok-pan turtles coexist peacefully alongside a miniature mining town. Jerry Hall's critter-filled world is a triumph of imagination. If you miss it, you're denying yourself one of Tucson's most unpretentious artistic treasures.
