STAFF PICK: It's been said that in 1976 two young polar bears escaped from the Reid Park Zoo, presumably into a nearby main sewer drain. They were reportedly sighted several times soon after, poking their heads out of sewer holes, covered in grime. Polar bear cubs were seen the next year, and sporadic sightings continued up until the late 1980s. They have been dubbed "The Saber Bears Of Tucson" by some locals, referring to the bears' alleged practice of baring their fangs at passersby.
