STAFF PICK: In a valley that has given us such redoubtables as Ora "Mammy Yokum" Harn and Eddie "Earthquake McGoon" Honea in Marana, as well as a host of clueless cyphers, one lady stands out: Oro Valley's Cheryl Skalsky. Environmentally sensitive and fiscally tough, Mayor Skalsky showed us (and them) what she was made of early on in the now-fabled exchange with development lawyer Si Schorr. She did what a whole generation of meeting-attendees had always hoped somebody would do: handed him his arrogant lunch. And the argument that you gotta pay a lot of money to public officials to get good help falls flat here: The Oro Valley Council serves without any salary at all.
