WAY HEAVY: A local band hits the musically odd skids when the Heavy Metal Brass Quintet performs their versions of Bach, Jack End, Brian Sykora and Dave Brubeck, among others. Also featured will be a "Mass Brass" ensemble, featuring high-school tune-heads from across our fair burg. The students were part of Heavy Metal's first Tucson/Pima County High School BrassFest, a day-long workshop focusing on small ensemble playing. The horned action gets underway at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, November 23, at Desert View High School, 4101 E. Valencia Road. Tickets are $3 at the door. Call 574-1563 for information. LARVAL MARVELS: Here's the chance to sink your sordid little mandibles into some real fun and help the Tucson Children's Museum at the same time, with "Big, Big Bugs," a display of new giant Koko Robotics of the six-legged type. Catch a couple of these babies hanging in your sink, and you'd be on Truly Nolen like flies on stink. The five giant robots chirp. They click, and the biggest of the lot, an enormous crouching grasshopper, extends its wings 22 feet before taking a gargantuan leap. Measly living desert bugs and spiders--no doubt a bit intimidated--will also be on display, along with interactive exhibits, magnified photos, bug arts and crafts, and comparatives between insects and humanoids, and how each inhabits this parched piece of Earth Part of the grand reopening for Foothills Mall, "Bugs" will be open noon to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday through the end of December. Admission is $3 per person, with group discounts available, and proceeds go to the Tucson Children's Museum. For information call 792-9985 LITTLE DUFFERS: Casas Adobes Concerts hosts a performance by those well-known preteen warblers, the Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus. The fellas are fresh from gigs at the White House, Sydney Opera House and a tour of Spain, and now they're just itching to belt a few for the hometown crowd. They'll sing their wee hearts out beginning at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 24, at Casas Adobes Congregational Church, 6801 N. Oracle Road. A $5 per person donation is requested. For details, call 297-1181. FEMME ELECTORALS: The Arizona Women's Political Caucus endorsed a bevy of female political winners this year, and tonight several will discuss their various strategies for victory, ranging from innovative fund-raising to expansive mailing lists. Sharon Bronson, who landed a Board of Supervisors seat, Barbara LaWall, soon-to-be county attorney, and pending state rep Debora Norris will offer peeks behind the balloting curtain at the AWPC's November Chapter meeting, from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Himmel Park Library, 1035 N. Treat Ave. Brown-baggers are welcome. Call 325-1503 for details.
