POET FOR PEACE: Northern Irish poet and peace activist Michael Longley will highlight Ireland: Moving Towards Healing, a conference celebrating the year-long cease-fire in Northern Ireland, with a free reading at 8 p.m. Saturday, October 7, in the Harvill Building Room 150 on the UA campus. A Walk Through Ireland, an exhibition of rare Irish books (including a facsimile of the Book of Kells and a copy of the Book of Durrow) will be on display October 6 through 8 in the UA Main Library. RECORD CONVENTION: Twenty dealers from Arizona will gather in the Fire Fighter Union Hall, 2264 E. Benson Highway, with thousands of collectible LPs, CDs, 45s and musical memorabilia in the first annual Record and CD Convention. KXCI's Kidd Squidd will be spinning the discs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Early admission is $4, and opens at 7 a.m. Regular 9 a.m. admission is $2, $1 with two cans for the food bank.Convention hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, October 7. BOOK SALE: Books, records, maps and sheet music...all are up for grabs as the UA Main Library hosts the annual Friends of the Library Book Sale Wednesday, October 11. Tomes on traveling the west, Renaissance painters, museum exhibit catalogs and color plate books can be had for as little as $1.50 in hardcover, 50 cents in paperback. Prospective buyers que up as early as 6 a.m., so the takings must be good. Sale is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a companion sale by the Arizona Archaeological and Historical Society.
