Lawyer Pork

FORMER ASSISTANT ARIZONA Attorney General Steve Twist hasn't really had steady work since his mentor, former Attorney General Bob Corbin, left the presidency of the National Rifle Association, where Twist was on the payroll running something called Operation Crime Strike.

In need of a handout, Twist has been succored by Pima County Attorney Steve Neely, who put Twist to work as a lobbyist. What Twist lobbies for is somewhat nebulous, as most members of even this legislature think he's a jerk.

Recently, Twist was up for another welfare payment, this time for $9,600. The matter was on the Pima County Board of Supervisors' March 21 consent agenda, but Supervisor Raul Grijalva removed it by forcing a vote. (Thanks, Raul, for waking up.) While Supervisor Mike Boyd moved to pay Twist, the motion died for lack of a second.

Which caused normally placid Deputy County Attorney David Dingeldine to come off the wall and sputter they had to pay Twist because he'd done the work. That's an interesting argument, but one which Supervisor Ed Moore hasn't bought in the past with other contracts.

This past Tuesday the Supes voted three to one to pay Twist. Boyd, for some inexplicable reason, voted 'no' and Moore wasn't present.
