With the success of the Detroit soul group The Intruders, Tucson's group of the same name decided to change theirs to The Quinstrels. They released a 45, but never appeared on stage using the name. Their 1965 release, "I've Got a Girl"/"Tell Her" indicated a new direction for the band and set the stage for what they would become as The Dearly Beloved. Guitarist/vocalist Tom Walker once said, "For the first time, the group really let loose in the studio." A four-part a capella doo-wop intro innocently starts the track which then breaks into a garage-rock love song complete with a ripping lead solo, and the group's tight harmonies at the forefront. It's a raw, simple and memorable track. The flip, "Tell Her" delivers an uptempo folk/country-flavored love song pairing the group's harmonies with some stunning guitar picking. The two tracks were recorded at Audio Recorders, the group's first outing in a professional studio, and released on their then manager Dan Peters' local Moxie label.
