When Hollywood starts making remakes
of sequels, I find myself wanting to reach
for my revolver. Luckily, I don’t own one,
so I sat quietly through this non-scary
horror film and was occasionally amused
by the inventive imagery of director Hideo
Nakata. Killer deer, wet hair and fuzzy
videos are all used to good effect in this
story of a vengeful ghost who wants to
either be loved or kill a lot of people.
Unfortunately, there’s not much story, and
the film is more a loose collection of
scenes starring the same actors. Since
one of those actors is Naomi Watts, that’s
not entirely a bad thing, but it’s also not
entirely a movie.
