The Swedish Millennium Trilogy comes to a disappointing conclusion with this dull, stagnant film. While Noomi Rapace remains an interesting presence, her Lisbeth Salander is confined to hospital beds, prison cells and courtrooms for almost the entire film. The first film had a decent-enough missing-person mystery to move things along, and the second one at least had Lisbeth out and about and occasionally swinging shovels at people. This one is a terrible drag, and qualifies as one of the year’s worst films. David Fincher is currently remaking The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, so more Lisbeth is on the way, but this is probably the end for Rapace in the role. What a shame that they couldn’t give her a better send-off.
