Support the Tucson Folk Festival

Every May the past 30 years the Tucson Folk Festival reminds us it's OK to slow down a bit, as well as of the importance of picking out a good lawn chair to enjoy the music from. So to keep the festival going, the Tucson Kitchen Musicians Association with KXCI Radio returns with the Headliners Show, a festival benefit on Saturday, Jan. 3 at El Casino Ballroom, 437 E. 26th St., with five local acts that have all headlined one of the two nights of the two-day folk fest these last five years. However, according to organizers, lest anyone think folk music is only for laid back folkies, the El Casino's famed expansive wooden dance floor should be getting a good workout as all these groups have some of the best rhythm sections. The headliners show lineup is as follows: John Coinman Band (headlined 2010); Kevin Pakulis Band (2011); Sabra Faulk & the Angel band (2012); Stefan George and the Ditchriders (2013); and Sonoran Dogs--featuring Peter McLaughlin, Albin Blaine, & Brian Davies among others (2014). Tickets are $10 and available at the door. There's food for purchase, and doors open at 5:30 p.m. and show starts at 6 p.m.
