Michelle Cormier is the store manager for the Zia Records location on Speedway Boulevard. Outside of work, Cormier enjoys movies (horror, musicals and Disney), reading, and walking her dog Gypsy, an 11-year-old Shar Pei and Boxer mix adopted from the pound.
What was the first concert you attended?
The Outfield opening for Starship on the "Knee Deep in the Hoopla" tour.
What are you listening to these days?
Old Crow Medicine Show, Mumford & Sons, (The) Lumineers, Imagine Dragons, The Band Perry, Blake Shelton, and all my old '80s stuff.
What was the first album you owned?
The Outfield's Play Deep on vinyl.
What artist, genre or musical trend does everyone seem to love, but you just don't get?
Skrillex and the whole dubstep thing—it just seems like repetitive noise to me.
What musical act, current or defunct, would you most like to see perform live?
If I had a time machine, definitely The Doors. Otherwise I just wish I had been older in the '80s to see all of that great stuff, plus concerts were actually affordable back then.
Musically speaking, what is your favorite guilty pleasure?
I can't say I really feel guilty about it, but I love '80s hard rock or "hair bands". There was so much more escapism in the music then. Once the '90s creeped along everyone's misery seeped into the music.
What song would you like to have played at your funeral?
I think "Shooting Star" by Bad Company would be cool, but "Party Hard" by Andrew W.K. because I want people to hopefully ... celebrate my life rather than mourn my passing.
What band or artist changed your life, and how?
I guess I'd have to say Poison changed my life. After hearing them, I started forging my own path with what I liked, stereotypes be damned. I certainly wasn't the "rocker" archetype and my musical tastes have continued to be all over the map.
Figurative gun to your head, what is your favorite album of all time?
Type O Negative, October Rust. I could listen to this on repeat and never tire of it.
