As of this issue, the Weekly is being printed in a new place--specifically, in Mesa, by the good folks at the East Valley Tribune/Freedom Communications. I tell y'all this for two reasons: one, the printer change should lead to better print quality (meaning the paper will be easier to read, and fewer of the color pictures will look like you're supposed to be wearing 3-D glasses), and two, it means we had to move a couple of things around. For example, because of the way their press is configured, this is now on Page 2 rather than Page 3 of the print edition. (It's all about color availability, baby.) We'd print the Weekly ourselves here in Tucson, except our paper is too big for our press. When you're looking at an 80- to 112-page paper most weeks, that takes a really, really big press to print.
And now, the bad news.
Next week's issue will be the last with Laurel Allen on board. She's been here a little more than a year, and she's moving on to bigger and better things. (Yes, in a more general sense, this is actually good news, but I am being blatantly selfish here.) She's taken a position with motorcycle mags Road Racer X and Racer X Illustrated, and at her new job, she'll get to travel all around the world, ride awesome motorcycles and make tons more money.
I now hate her.
Anyway, her last day will be Tuesday, March 15. She'll be missed. Once we figure out who will be filling her City Week-writing, copy-editing, paginating shoes, we'll let you know.
