Saxon Burns, a Weekly staff writer for almost two years (and a freelancer for more than two years before that), has let us know that he'll be leaving us at the end of the month. After several recent trips to Los Angeles, he's fallen in love with Southern California and has decided to move there--unless we can talk some sense into him. Meanwhile, we're looking for someone to replace Saxon; an advertisement with all the necessary details about that can be found on Page 19 of the print edition.
In other news, we have a new art director. Adam Kurtz started the job last week. He came to us from a sister newspaper, the Sierra Vista Herald, where he had a similar gig. Before joining the Herald in 2005, the Northern Arizona University grad worked freelance jobs in Flagstaff and Burbank, Calif. We're happy to have Adam on board, not only because we need his design expertise, but because our Weekly softball team needs an offensive boost. Adam replaces Hugh Dougherty, who left to start Colorez!, a new biweekly GLBT publication here in Tucson.
Joining Adam in our design department (and on our softball team) is Alex McGrath. He's actually been around on a part-time basis for several months now, and this week, he was named our full-time editorial designer. He's a graduate of the University of Baltimore and has a new puppy. He replaces Arek Sarkissian II, who left several months ago to get back into the writing part of the journalism biz. Welcome, Alex!
