There's a pre-sale party with live and silent auctions, a raffle and great shopping from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on Friday night. Admission is $5. On Saturday, prices drop on all goods and admission is only $1 (or bring one canned food item). Gates open at 7 a.m. and rummaging happens until 2 p.m. at Hi Corbett Field. The sale benefits the Junior League of Tucson and its many community programs.

WAG THE TAIL October is half over but you still have a chance to celebrate National Adopt-A-Shelter-Dog Month by galloping down to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona. "Nothing says welcome home like a wagging tail and a pair of warm brown eyes," says Susan Wilson, HSSA Executive Director.
The local shelter is celebrating with DogtoberFest. That means half-price adoption fees for dachshunds, schnauzers, boxers, Doberman pinschers, German shepherds, great Danes, rottweilers and Pomeranians. Any pooch with a strain of German heritage (even the snooty purebreds) is eligible for the discount. Better yet, take home a pair.
