Best Radio Talk Show Host

Mike Rapp, KNST

Reader's Pick: Rapp, the former hard-rock DJ at KLPX-FM, has made a seamless transition to morning troublemaker. Occasionally a tad too far to the right for our taste, his show is still lively and provocative and he generally lets callers have their say. Not much more you can ask for.

Reader's Poll Runner-Up: John C. Scott, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., KTKT, 990-AM. We'll say this for Scott, who's been hosting a fiery commentary/suck-up infomercial for more than a dozen years: He's a lot better than that coin guy who wants us to dump our nest egg into gold necklaces. A salute to Scott's producer (and son), Mark Ulm, who has the Olympian labor of filling three hours of airtime five days a week with enough guests to keep his dad from ranting like a street-corner crank.

Of Mythic Proportions: The Tucson Weekly's one-time automatic-weapons editor, Emil Franzi now holds court with Inside Track from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and Friday on KTKT-AM (On Thursday, chef Alan Zeman and his kitchen cabinet talk local restaurants.) A wonderful lineup of guests, terrific political bantering, thunderous editorial commentary and the best damn callers in all of Tucson.
