We're so tired of shopping centers starting "farmers' markets" with the cynical motive of increasing foot traffic. Finally, the Santa Cruz River Farmers' Market is the real thing. Tucked in the trees and picnic tables of the Santa Cruz River Park, it's a dynamic mix of real farmers and backyard gardeners, old-school westside neighbors, downtown professionals and bohemian artsy types. The produce is to die for. Little surprises like a mariachi band or cooking demonstrations make it feel like a block party. Started by the Community Food Bank to promote local growers and good, fresh food for all, the market accepts credit and debit cards, food stamps and WIC vouchers.
