B-Sides: Wanda Junes

DUST AND TWANG

Get out of the house and get yourself a taste of some banjo pluckin' folksy desert country this Saturday, Sept. 19 when The Wanda Junes put out their new release, humorously titled hi fi record album. Although the name might not be super serious, make no mistake that this little slice of Americana offers up some solid tunes in the names of either country legends Wanda Jackson and June Carter or as an allusion to Kurt Vonnegut's 1970 play. Recorded in Tempe with Emotional Response Records, the album was made in two sessions on analog 8-track with six musicians, including members of Passion Pit, Human Behavior and Victorian Slang.

You can see the band live and buy a copy of the band's ERR debut release at Wooden Tooth Records (415 N. Fourth Ave.) on Saturday at 7 p.m. with Ex-cowboy and Louise Le Hir. The show is free, which means you should have the cash to spend on the record.
