I heard about Noosa, the band, not the yogurt, a few days ago from a friend and because of the nature of life, I quickly forgot about them. But while looking for some new music to listen to this afternoon, I rediscovered the Big Apple-based duo and am glad that I did.
The group is made up of Sky Barbarick and Matt Buszko and while I would generally classify them as synth-pop, Buszko's beats aren't overwhelmingly energetic and Barbarick's voice has a breathy kind of quality to it that makes for some beautifully haunting moments.
Their self-titled EP was released last week (you can stream the entire thing on Soundcloud) and is already getting a lot of attention from indie music lovers. I have high expectations for this band and hope that they continue to deliver tunes of this caliber in the future.
While some of their tracks are a little on the dark side, "Sail" is just happy enough to be incredibly addictive and belongs on your summer playlist. Keep up with the band on Facebook if you like what you hear.
