We don't have to tell you what kind of cultural impact Dave Chappelle's variety show had on the world in 2003. But sketch comedy has never been the same since. After two seasons, Chappelle decided that he couldn't return back to Comedy Central for a third season of the Chappelle in 2006 due to creative control issues and an unfriendly work environment.
Seven years later, Chappelle confessed some harsh truths on David Letterman's
Late Show:
Chappelle said "Technically: I didn't quit, I'm seven years late to work."
I went to the Odd Ball Comedy fest in Phoenix where Chappelle headlined. Comedy is subjective, but he wasn't the funniest comedian that night. Maybe the Hartford incident affected his set because it didn't strengthen his material. Despite his lackluster performance, it was nice to see him back behind the mic telling some jokes.
Hopefully, in this day and age, Chappelle can crowd fund and produce the show he always wanted with the corporate interference.
