There aren't many people who can legitimately be credited with inventing a style of music, but Bill Monroe, the father of bluegrass, born 100 years ago today, deserves that moniker. You should take some time and listen to his music today (if you use Spotify, the JSP collection All The Classic Releases 1937-1949 is a great listen) or if you'd like a little more background on the man and his influence on American music, NPR has a webpage full of interviews today.
