A Dan Zanes' Kiddie Show With Our Salvador Duran

It's been a while since the Rialto hosted a good kiddie show. The last one I went to with my own kid was almost three years ago, when we went to the music palace in the middle of the day to see Justin Roberts and the Not Ready for Naptime Players. It was a great day of dancing and watching wee ones take to the floor, and at the end of the set, he invited all the kids to come up onstage and stand close to their favorite instrument for one last song.

Going through kiddy music withdrawals, I was happy to see the Rialto's announcement that Dan Zanes is coming to town on May 15 (tickets go on sale March 11). Sitting in on the show will be Tucson's Salvador Duran. This could be the best kiddy show yet. Let's teach kids the power of the stomp box!

If you're worried because you think of Zanes as King of Noggin, the kids' cable channel, I assure you this isn't going to be like Justin Roberts. The May 15 show isn't going to be in the middle of the day, but at 8 p.m., and is described as all-ages family entertainment. Those who have yet to breed should remember that Zanes has some adult music cred with the Del Fuegos, and his current music is pretty good--just be prepared to share the floor. The great thing about taking your kids to music shows is that they aren't like us--they aren't inhibited, and when the music moves their spirit, their body takes over. You could learn a thing or two at this Zanes show

(Note to the Rialto: My kiddy music life is almost ending as my son gets older. Please bring Laurie Berkner to town before it's too late.)
