Get Your 1,000 Steps on in Bisbee

The 20th Annual Bisbee 1000 Stair Climb—a blissful exercise in astonishment and exertion that features a 3-mile-or-so run/walk through historic Bisbee interrupted by the climbing of more than 1,000 hillside stairs—will be held Saturday, Oct. 16.

The event has become so popular, organizers can no longer take registrations on the day of the race; entrants must register online at Bisbee1000.org. At press time, organizers were close to the 2,000-entrant limit.

Unlike last year's event, which took place on perhaps the hottest mid-October day in Bisbee history (with temperatures in the low 90s), the weather forecast for this year is for highs in the high 70s, with a slight chance of a cooling rain in the afternoon.

Organizer Cynthia Conroy says that there will be a big party Friday night, followed by the event starting at 9 a.m. sharp Saturday morning. Proceeds go to the Save Our Stairs organization.
