It's that time of year again when our city is taken over by rock hounds and jewelry designers ... and we get to pretend for a couple of weeks that we're rock hounds and jewelry designers—and yeah, long lost fossil hunters, too. That's what makes gem show season so special, and everyone has a special venue that they love to attend every year (Africa tent, anyone?). From Saturday, Jan. 31 through Sunday, Feb. 15, more than 40 sites, in local hotels, motels, parking lots, gravel lots and other venues. There's the main event, the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show at the Tucson Convention Center (a fave with the kids). For more information, and you're going to need this, we recommend tucsongemshows.net, which has a handy guide of all the big and small shows. VisitTucson.org also has a schedule and handy map you can print out with all the venues.
